A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting another Mom Boss through social media. She works with the brand Beautycounter and kindly sent me some samples of their products to test out for all of you! This was my first-time hearing of the brand Beautycounter and learning about their products. This is a full review of my first experience with Beautycounter.
As a mom I am constantly trying to find the best product for Baby T. I research everything I put on her skin and try to find the best ingredients possible. Because of the way the makeup industry is set up I do not even look at the ingredients of my makeup because I know it has horrible ingredients in it. I absolutely love putting on makeup. I want my makeup to last and look good, even though it is a sacrifice to my own skin/body. Let’s be honest most of the more “natural” brands of makeup do not perform well especially when compared to other brands. Beautycounter has been working to change all of that. The brand is inspirational and truly cares about what people use on their skin.
Behind the Brand
Beautycounter was started by a mom just like me that cared about what she put on her children’s skin and her own. She wanted a brand that she could trust and since that didn’t exist she created it. Beautycounter chooses to make their products without over 1,500 ingredients that are harmful to the body. The United States only has a list of 30 products that cannot be used in makeup and skin care, only 30! In fact, the latest law America passed on cosmetic safety was The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act in 1938. We have learned so much in recent years about what causes cancer, what we should never put on our skin, etc. Yet our government has not updated regulations on the cosmetic industry in 80 years! Beautycounter is not only a brand that makes high quality products, it is a brand that is fighting to change the current laws that allow the cosmetic industry to use harmful chemicals in their products.
Skin Care Products
I started by testing the entire Nourishing line. I used it consistently for two weeks. The whole line was kind to my sensitive skin. It truly lives up to its name and nourishes the skin.
With my sensitive skin, I always prefer to use a gentle cleanser to wash my face with. This cream cleanser was calming and left my face feeling smooth.
Just like the cream cleanser this exfoliator is not a harsh product. It has a cream base with little beads in it to help exfoliate.
The day cream is not thick or greasy. It stays nicely on/in the skin and it sits well under makeup.
The eye cream is a fairly thick cream which is nice for my dry under eyes.
The night cream is a little bit thicker then the day cream. It still sinks into the skin well and my face felt nourished in the morning.
This is a brand-new product that Beautycounter just released. I am weary of “peels” because they are usually too harsh on my skin. When you first apply it to your face there is a little bit of tingling. It is not sticky and not hard to sleep in. In the morning when I washed my face it was extremely smooth. To my surprise there was no flare up from the product being harsh. My husband and I both tried this products and noticed immediate results.
This is one of Beautycounter’s best selling products. It has a number of uses. I used it to remove my makeup because it reminded me of another product I own. It removed my face makeup well, but it did not remove my eye makeup. They also suggest it can be used as a daily cleanser or an overnight mask.
The first thing I noticed about the tint foundation is the color rage. There are only 10 shades, but they cater to every skin color, from very light to very dark. Honestly it is hard to find a foundation where the amount of light shades equal the amount of dark shades. I did really like the foundation. It applies well, didn’t look cakey and lasted all day. The foundation does have flash back, so don’t wear this if you plan to be in front of flash photography. All the lighter shades have a yellow undertone. My skin is very pink and I want my foundation to match that. I hope Beautycounter expands the range of colors to include different undertones.
Color Pinch Cream Blusher – Hibiscus
Cream blush is not a product I typically use. My cheeks are naturally really pink so I like to apply a little bit of blush along the tops of my cheek bones to give the illusion that they are higher. The blush blended well with a wet sponge. I also tried it on my lips. It was very similar to the color intense lipstick. The color stayed in my lips all day long.
There are three thing that I want from a lipstick. There to be good pigment, last a long time and not transfer onto everything my lips touch. The lipstick was creamy and a great color. It applied well without bleeding around the outside of my lips. The lipstick transferred a little bit which is expected but even when the “creamy” part of the lipstick wore off, it left a beautiful stain on my lips for the rest of the day.
My Truth About Beautycounter
Most of the complaints I saw in the reviews on Beautycounter’s website was that their products are expensive. I disagree, the products are prices comparably to product I use all the time from Ulta and Sephora. Everything I have learned about Beautycounter has really impressed me. I do still have mixed feeling about Multi Level Marketing, but as a whole brand I love what they stand for. I love that I get to care about what I am putting on my skin because a brand like Beautycounter cares by developing products that actually work, last a long time and are created without harmful ingredients.
Behind the Mom Boss
Hi! I’m Crystal Wilson and I’m a consultant & advocate for Beautycounter. I’m a full-time SAHM of two littles & one on the way. I got into Beautycounter after I started moving my family towards healthier eating, and then I realized that I should also probably start caring about the products we use on our bodies, not just what we put in them. Beautycounter’s mission to put safer products in the hands of everyone intrigued me, and I fell in love with them further after trying their skin care & makeup products. My skin has never looked better, and I love working a side business that allows me to share valuable information with friends, stay at home with my kids, and earn a little income on the side. I post regularly in my FB group called A Journey with Beautycounter, and please email me if you’d like to get started with products or are interested in this business!
Crystal posts regularly on Facebook and Instagram, sharing products, knowledge, promos and even giveaways.
